Four different Frankfort organizations planned Halloween this year: the Village, the Park District, the Frankfort Public Library and the Frankfort Area Historical Society. Their events land on the weekend of October 23 to 25. On that one weekend there's a free Friday night show on Breidert Green, three separate events on Saturday, and the last Frankfort Country Market of 2026 on Sunday morning. After that, the Park District's next big event on the calendar moves indoors to Founders Community Center for the Holiday Craft Show on November 7.
We put the whole stretch in order because no single calendar does. The countdown starts tomorrow.
Three Sign-Ups Close Friday, October 9
Three of the month's deadlines fall on the same day, a week before any costume comes out:
- Halloween Bash registration. The Park District's Bash for kids requires pre-registration at $15 per child. Registration closes October 9 or when the event fills.
- Scary at the Prairie race shirts. Runners who register before October 9 are guaranteed a shirt. Online registration stays open through October 16.
- Scarecrow Building Contest entries. Entries are due October 9. Families, scout groups, homeowners associations and community groups can all enter. The Park District has handed out cross sticks since August 17, and finished scarecrows go up outside Founders Community Center.
Scarecrow voting runs October 13 through 29, at the Founders Community Center office or on the Frankfort Park District's Facebook page. That voting window runs from before the Bash to just before Halloween.
The Warm-Up Weekend, October 16 and 17
The first weekend is aimed at kids and runners.
On Friday, October 16, the Halloween Bash runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Founders Community Center, 140 Oak Street. The Park District's lineup includes a DJ dance party, a balloon artist, inflatables, spooky games, a hayride, kid crafts and a small pumpkin patch. Costumes are expected.
The next morning, the Village holds Scary at the Prairie at Prairie Park in downtown Frankfort. Races start in order of age:
| Race | Ages | Start |
|---|---|---|
| 100-Yard Dash | 5 and under | 10:30 a.m. |
| 1-Mile Fun Run | 10 and under | 10:40 a.m. |
| Timed 5K Run/Walk | All ages | 11:00 a.m. |
The fee depends on whether you dress up. Registration is $15 in costume and $20 without, and race-day registration is $20. Pre-race packet pickup is new this year: shirts and race materials are available at Village Hall, 432 W. Nebraska Street, from October 12 to 16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Same-day registration opens at 9:30 a.m. With pickup at Village Hall, a family with three kids in three race categories can skip the race-morning line altogether.
October 23 to 25: Every Organizer Lands on One Weekend
The second weekend is where all four calendars overlap. Here it is in order.
| Day | Event | Time | Place | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri., Oct. 23 | Ghost Stories on the Green | 6:00 p.m. | Breidert Green | Free |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Howl-A-Woof | 10:00 a.m., gate at 9:50 | Bark Park, Commissioners Park | Free |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Lanterns & Legends Cemetery Walk | Tours from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. | Pleasant Hill Cemetery | $25 |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Scary Stories at the Library | 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. | Frankfort Public Library District | Not listed |
| Sun., Oct. 25 | Final 2026 Frankfort Country Market | 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. | Downtown Frankfort | Not listed |
Friday on Breidert Green
The Village and the Frankfort Public Library are hosting Ghost Stories on the Green together. It starts at 6 p.m. with not-so-spooky ghost stories. Then Edd Fairman, billed as a "wizard of sorts," performs his Halloween magic show, "It's Not Scary, It's Silly." Free popcorn runs all evening and straw bale seating is provided, so there's no need to bring chairs.
"With ghost stories, magic, costumes and popcorn, it's sure to be a fun night for everyone," Mayor Keith Ogle said in the Village's announcement.
Saturday in three stops
Saturday is the fullest day of the month. Its three events come from three different organizers, and the morning event is the only one that stands alone:
- Morning at the Bark Park. Howl-A-Woof starts at 10 a.m. at the Bark Park in the northwest corner of Commissioners Park, at 80th Avenue and Sauk Trail. The gate opens at 9:50. Dogs compete in a costume contest judged on Best Overall, Funniest and Scariest, and there's also a bone yard hunt and trick-or-treating at vendor tables. Bring a bag for the treats. The event is free and on-leash, and dog owners under 12 need an adult with them.
- Mid-afternoon at the Library. Scary Stories at the Library runs from 3 to 4 p.m. and features children's entries from the Give FPLD Goosebumps contest. If one of those stories came from your house, this is the hour to be there.
- Late afternoon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Frankfort Area Historical Society's second annual Lanterns & Legends Cemetery Walk offers six tours, starting every half hour from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Each lasts about an hour. Guided by lantern light, local residents portray five well-known Frankfort residents buried at Pleasant Hill. Tickets are $25, the walk goes on rain or shine, and the money supports the Historical Society.
The two afternoon events overlap. If you have kids in the library program, the 4:30 or 5:00 tour is the one that fits after it. The 5:00 tour starts the latest, so it ends closest to dark, which suits a walk lit by lanterns.
The Sunday the Market Packs Up
The Frankfort Country Market has run every Sunday since April 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in downtown Frankfort. The Village's page says nearly 70 vendors come each week, selling produce, flowers, plants, honey, meats, seafood, dairy, baked goods, canned goods and hot food, along with a blade and knife sharpener. October 25 is the final market of 2026.
That's what sets this weekend apart from the rest of the month. The Halloween events come back every year in some form. The market closing for the season is a deadline of a different kind, and this year it falls the morning after the busiest Saturday of October. If you get your knives sharpened at the market, or stock up on local honey and meat before winter, October 25 is the last chance in 2026. The Village's Country Market page also links to the "Country Market Show" that FCTV Channel 6 filmed in 2025, if you want to put names to the vendors before your last visit.
Halloween events continue after the market closes, but the next big Park District event moves indoors. The 33rd Annual Holiday Craft Show runs Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Founders Community Center, 140 Oak Street. That's the same building where the Bash opened the season and where the contest scarecrows are displayed.
Halloween Itself Falls on a Saturday
October 31 is a Saturday in 2026, so the day's events run from morning to evening without a school day in the way:
- 10 a.m. to noon. The Frankfort Police Department's Safety Trunk or Treat on Breidert Green.
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Trick or Treat at the Library, with candy and non-candy treats at four service desks.
- 3 to 7 p.m. The Village's recommended trick-or-treat hours, as reported by Patch.
The library's hours overlap the start of neighborhood trick-or-treating by an hour. If your kids want both, the library desks are easiest to reach before 3.
The Library also lists a Halloween Storytime at Amazing Fantasy that day, but the times don't agree. The library calendar shows 1 to 2 p.m., and the event's own description says 11 a.m. to noon. Call ahead before you build a morning around it.
